OK so I’ve signed up for WordPress’s Writing 101 class and I’m not sure I’m doing this assignment right. I do feel like I’m back in school and I need to ask the teacher questions about the homework but am afraid to raise my hand. I know that I’m already late with the first assignment: to just write for 20 minutes in “free flow” mode. Right now if I let my mind wander it keeps coming back to the big move that’s just around the corner.
After almost 3 1/2 years, it’s time to leave our little house on Lee Avenue. We’re off to bigger and greener pastures in ten days and the last five weeks have been crazy busy.
We’ve got boxes piled nearly to the ceiling in our dining room. Our living room is full of small pieces of furniture from nearly every room in the house. The walls are bare. The attic is empty.
And we have lists going at home and at work of all the things that we need to do before, during, and after the big move.
On top of that, we have a landlord who is anxious to sell our current home (the reason we’re moving in 10 days) and so we have realtors bringing people through our house, not always with advance notice. The house isn’t exactly in what I would call “showing condition”.
But the place we’re moving to is lovely, in a great neighborhood close to the high school. So we’re trying to keep an eye on the finish line and remember that the worst part is almost over. Soon we’ll be able to relax and take our time putting our home back together.
And then in September we head to the beach. Just have to be patient. Must be patient. It will be here before we know it, right?
